Interrupting Chicken by David Ezra Stein

This has to be one of my favorite books!! I can relate to this and the humor is off the charts. :-) Caldecott Honor 2011.

This is David's interviews when he got Caldecott.

Dave the Potter by Bryan Collier and Laban Carrick Hill

Caldecott 2011 Honor book with mesmerizing illustrations about Dave the potter, 19th century folk artist, poet and slave. A story that every kid should know.

You can get the book from Amazon here -

A Sick Day for Amos McGee by Erin Stead and Philip Stead

This is a touching story. This is also one of those rare picture books where the protagonist is an adult (but he is childlike). 2011 Caldecott Medal.

Sleep like a tiger by Pamela Zagarenski and Mary Logue

Who has not had a child that said, "I am not sleepy. I don't want to go to sleep" even though sleep was ready to take them over. Brilliant book. Caldecott Honor 2013.

Flora and the Flamingo by Molly Idle

A book that is sheer joy. As you flip the pages, it just fills your heart with warmth and joy. Loved it. There is so much movement and flight.

Caldecott Honor 2014

This is a great talk by Molly Idle at National Book Festival. She talks about her process, her mom's belief, importance drawing from observation...

I love how she talks about drawing simple shapes and connecting the shapes. Very fascinating process.

This is not my hat by Jon Klassen

Caldecott 2013 Medal winner.

Jon Klassen is a genius illustrator (one of my favorite ones). He experiments with different mediums but his work has a minimalistic feel to it. He balances his colors and shades very well and also controls the negative space. The dark feel to the illustrations are mesmerizing. (Digital illustrations + Chinese ink)

This is a cute story.
