Drive for outcomes

Drive for outcomes, not assurances.

How many meetings you go to, where someone tells you that, “It will all be fine.” And, you come out feeling assured. And, unsurprisingly go to a similar meeting in few days and walk away feeling assured, again.

Don’t drive for assurances in a meeting. They are pointless because they don’t tell you anything. You need to drive outcomes.

The  answer to “Can you do this?” is an assurance. The answer to “When will you do this?” Is an outcome. 

Driving for outcomes makes people accountable. And accountability is a great thing.
